Practical Christianity: Trusting God

Life is ROUGH sometimes. Okay, A LOT of the time. There is ALWAYS something….and if not, that just means a curveball is right around the corner. At least, that’s how it feels. I get it. We’ve all felt like this before. Stress is inevitable. Worry is innate. Maybe, you’re fearing the unknown? yeah, me too.

I am not immune to this feeling. The feeling that all odds are stacked against you. The feeling that success is impossible. The feeling that you shouldn’t have made it this far, and probably can’t make it any further. Well…that’s kind of true. You CANNOT make it any further…not alone. You have only made it this far because of God’s grace, mercy and favor. You will only make it past this season, if you make the conscious decision to put your trust in him. Putting your trust in God is crucial. However, I’m here to tell you that how you feel is valid. Life IS rough sometimes…but GOD IS IN CONTROL ALL OF THE TIME. There is always a purpose for the battle you are facing. Trusting in God, enables you to be VICTORIOUS, even when it seems impossible, even when you are feeling defeated.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8 ESV

In January, I started Physical Therapy school. (you’ll learn more about my journey to PT school, and my PT school experiences in future posts). Physical Therapy School is EXPENSIVE. Physical Therapy School is INTENSE. Physical Therapy School is STRESSFUL. I should not have made it this far. I should not be here. I stress about meeting and exceeding expectations. I worry about passing every exam.  I worry about the financial burden. The financial deficit. However, I KNOW that it is because of GOD that i’m here. Therefore, it is GOD who will carry me through. God will provide for me. God will keep me sane. God will continue to show me favor. God will continue to give me wisdom. All I have to do is my part (study), be faithful, and TRUST IN GOD. That is what keeps me sane. That is what gives me peace in the midst of chaos. That is what God me this far. That is what will carry me through.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.

Isaiah 43:2 ESV

The Bottom Line: STRESS and WORRY will NEVER SOLVE anything. Excessive stress and chronic worrying simply indicate that your Trust in God is only an illusion, a facade. I’m not sure who you are trying to fool, but you are NOT fooling God. When you make the conscious decision to put ALL of your trust in God, to remain faithful to him, to work diligently in this season, then you can KNOW that HE WILL ALWAYS COME THROUGH for you.
